    Korean and Vietnam War
By: Adam Smeltzer,S, Allie Marquette,M, Danielle Evers,E, and Neil Gillert.G.
The Korean War and Vietnam War were two big wars during this time period. They were exactly alike. They were both civil wars in the countries. The Northern part of the countries were influenced by communism and wanted the Southern part to do the same. Also in both wars, we, the United States, jumped into the Southern parts and helped out while communist China gave resources to the northern parts, even though we knew nothing of the countries and/or their problems. America thought that if we did not stop the spread of communism something called the "Domino Theory" would fall into action and every country surrounding the northern parts of both Korea and Vietnam would subdue to the communism, and become communists themselves. Overall we knew was that we needed to stop the spread of communism.

    Civil Rights
By: Adam Smeltzer,S, Allie Marquette,M, Danielle Evers,E, and Neil Gillert.G.
{martin-luther-king2.jpg} Emmitt Till, was buying candy at a store. He walked out and talked to a white woman. The store clerk saw this and told some men. Later that night, they went to Till's house and took him. They beat him and made him suffer so nobody could tell who he was. Then, they killed him. They threw him into a river with weights tied to him. When others found him, his mother had an open coffin funeral so everyone could see what the whites have done. This started the civil rights movement.
Blacks everywhere were being discriminated, lynched and segregated even more. Their rights reduce by the minute and more of them die. The KKK (Klu Klux Klan) are behind it all. They are the ones who lynch the blacks, bomb their houses, and reduce their rights. Soon people stepped in to fight for these rights that they, like all other whites in America, should have. Leaders like Rosa Parks (below) and Martin Luther King Jr. (left) led this fight for freedom. MLK Jr. was inspired by people like Lincoln and Gandhi. Gandhi's influence, though, played a huge part in the civil rights movement. King used Gandhi's non-violence and fought the Jim Crow Laws. When King led the bus boycott he also used his non-violence rule. He would not lead a violent march, which is what he stated at the march he led in Memphis, Tennessee. That was the last march Martin Luther King Jr. ever led.

Why was it called: Cold War? Diplomatic terms said that a Hot War was a war that involved fighting and all communication failed, a Warm War was a war that was considering fighting, but were still talking it over. Now comes the Cold War which was a war where no fighting was involved, it is often symbolists the relationship between America and the Soviet Union in 1945-1980.
{somewhere.jpg} The Cold War, a war without a fight. The United States and Russia's race for power. Mass production of missiles and other weapons are built. Both countries had so many that they could obliterate the world over and over. (Left) Atomic bombs are ready to strike if WWIII happens to start. Missiles in Russia and in the U.S. Russia moved some of their missiles to Cuba. The Cuban missile crisis had begun. Fidel Castro, the dictator of Cuba at the time, was 80 miles off the shore of the U.S, a country that he didn't like. We though had missiles in Turkey, a close country to Russia. One misunderstanding or one mistake, could lead to the start of WWIII. We invaded Cuba, attempting to destroy the missile bases. While it was happening, we were secretly taking our missiles out of Turkey.

and WWII. Ships played a HUGE role in the war. They were bases and battle stations. On the large aircraft carriers(Below: Black and White) out in the sea, they were the operating stations for the planes and helicopters. Those helped people on the ground and the foot soldiers were in contact with the ships too. There were also small battle boats(Below: Colored) on the Vietnamese rivers. {pbrmkiigen1.jpg} Many of these boats were heavily armed and they were driven up and down the river and to the sea if they were in need for supplies.
